Britannia NYC is committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety across all our construction activities. We take all reasonably practicable steps to protect our employees, subcontractors, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our work, supported by appropriate construction insurance cover.

Our Commitment

We comply with applicable construction health and safety legislation and industry guidance, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

We identify hazards, assess risks and implement suitable control measures before work begins. Where required, we prepare and communicate appropriate risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), ensuring that workers understand the safe systems of work relevant to their activities.

Our health and safety arrangements include:

  • Providing suitable information, instruction, training and supervision.
  • Ensuring employees and subcontractors are competent to carry out their work safely.
  • Providing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Managing key construction risks, including working at height, hazardous substances, construction dust, plant and machinery, manual handling, noise, vibration and vehicle movements.
  • Maintaining safe plant, equipment and working environments.
  • Providing appropriate welfare, first aid and emergency arrangements.
  • Encouraging the prompt reporting of hazards, accidents and near misses.
  • Investigating incidents and taking appropriate corrective action.

Management is responsible for implementing this policy and providing appropriate resources for health and safety. Our construction team is responsible for maintaining safe working practices and ensuring site procedures are followed.

All employees and subcontractors are expected to follow health and safety procedures, use equipment and PPE correctly, attend required training and report unsafe conditions immediately.

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed at least annually and whenever there are significant changes to our activities, working practices or relevant legislation. The policy will be communicated to employees and relevant subcontractors and updated where necessary.
