This page outlines the principal laws, regulations and industry standards that govern our work as a UK construction company. Britannia NYC follows the requirements applicable to each project and works with clients, designers, contractors and specialist subcontractors to maintain safe, compliant and professionally managed construction projects.

Health & Safety
We comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM). These requirements cover the health, safety and welfare of workers, clients, visitors and members of the public affected by construction activities.
Where applicable, we maintain the required construction documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, construction phase plans, site induction records and competency checks. These measures help us maintain appropriate workplace safety standards throughout our projects.
Building Regulations & Building Control
All applicable building work is carried out in accordance with the relevant Building Regulations. We work with building control bodies to support plan submissions, inspections and the issue of completion documentation where required.
Planning Permission & Permitted Development

Planning permission and building control are separate requirements. Where planning permission is required, we can assist with the relevant technical information and coordinate with planning professionals. Permitted development rights may apply to certain works, subject to applicable restrictions and local planning requirements.
Party Wall Matters
For projects in England and Wales, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 may apply where works affect party walls, boundary structures or involve certain excavations. We can advise clients when party wall procedures may be relevant and liaise with appointed party wall surveyors where necessary.
Construction Contracts & Payments
Our construction contracts set out the agreed scope, programme, payment terms, variations and other project requirements, including any applicable workmanship guarantee. Where applicable, contracts comply with the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 (Construction Act), including statutory payment and adjudication provisions.
Environmental & Waste Compliance
We manage construction waste in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and applicable waste regulations. Waste is handled lawfully using authorised waste carriers and appropriate disposal facilities.
Where required, we retain waste transfer notes, hazardous waste consignment notes and other relevant disposal documentation. Site-specific measures are also used to minimise pollution and protect land, air and water.
Asbestos & Hazardous Materials

Where refurbishment or demolition work may disturb asbestos-containing materials, appropriate asbestos surveys must be completed before intrusive work begins. Where asbestos removal is required, we use appropriately licensed contractors and obtain relevant clearance documentation.
Fire & Electrical Safety
We follow applicable fire safety requirements, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 where applicable. Temporary fire precautions and appropriate controls are implemented during construction, including procedures for hot works.
Electrical work is carried out in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and relevant BS 7671 requirements by competent electricians. Appropriate certificates and test records are provided where applicable.
Equipment, PPE & Substances
We follow applicable requirements covering work equipment, lifting equipment, personal protective equipment and hazardous substances, including PUWER, LOLER, PPE and COSHH requirements. Equipment inspections, risk assessments and appropriate safety controls form part of our site management procedures.
Employment, Competence & Insurance

We comply with applicable UK employment legislation, including the Working Time Regulations 1998, National Minimum Wage Act 1998 and Equality Act 2010.
We hold the required employers’ liability insurance and appropriate insurance coverage, and can provide relevant insurance documentation upon request. Public liability and professional indemnity insurance documentation may also be provided where applicable to a project.
Operatives are required to hold appropriate trade competence cards, such as CSCS cards, or equivalent verifiable qualifications where relevant.
